Here's an ad that appeared in the Worldwide News dated January 12, 1987 page 5.
In reflection it's hard to believe how stupid we were. It was like living with a huge blood sucking parasite stuck to our necks and loving every minute of it.
After making a number of these double tithe contributions I received a letter from the church's legal department. The letter contained the following note:
"In order to comply with your company's gift matching program, we want to mention the following:
(2) Several companies have inquired about uneven amounts which give the wrong impression of being payment for some service or purchase. By law only gifts, not payments, are eligible for gift-matching. To avoid giving such wrong impressions, we would appreciate it if you would round off the amounts."
