Everywhere we turn in today’s world it seems we are beset by self-proclaimed “prophets” trying to make a profit by predicting the future for us. We can read our daily horoscope in the local newspaper, consult a palm reader in our area, read what the ten leading psychics predict will befall whoever, or tune in to radio evangelists proclaiming what the Bible foretells for the future. Most of these prognosticators do well to have a prophetic batting average as high as .200. Looked at another way, these seers are wrong more than 80% of the time!

“How are the mighty fallen! Tell it not in Gath, publish
it not in the streets of Ashkelon; lest the daughters of
the Philistines rejoice . . . How are the mighty fallen in
the midst of the battle!” (I Sam.1:19-25)
“But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the
Lord: and be sure your sin will find you out” (Numbers 32:23).
Herbert W. Armstrong.
Was he a delusional man or a fraud?
HWA tried to convince his sheeple that he was spreading the word of God when in reality he was fulfilling his personal psychological need to be recognized by those who retained real power within the worlds power structure. If he could arrange a meeting with the Queen, Margaret Thatcher or even Charles, who he used to call the wicked Prince who will become the principal cause of the destruction of Britain, he could claim legitimacy in the eyes of his followers. Or so he thought.
This is the true story of Herbert W. Armstrong’s quest to weasel his way into the power structure of Britain.
The answer? So The Radio Church of God Could be Founded!
This bit of propaganda from the pen of Herbert Armstrong is striking in that he tries to convince his readers that the church he founded will have a future falling away. He wrote:
“But Christ foretold a turning away from His Message. He said MANY FALSE TEACHERS would rise and mislead nearly all.”
What he couldn’t have known is that he himself would plant the seeds of destruction by appointing Joseph Tkach as his successor. So much for Herbie being a prophet.
