Couple-Busting , Worldwide Church of God style
By GrizzlyI had just been baptized for a short time around 1981 when I unhappily found out about the Worldwide Church of God's stranglehold on domestic relationships.
There was a dinner-dance at our local church hall during the Days of Unleavened Bread, which I attended with my fiancée ( who did not attend Worldwide Church of God ). All night long the ministers are giving us dirty looks, especially during the slow-dance numbers where you cuddle your partner. ( Later, a Worldwide Church of God ministerial giant said to me: "I looked over at you two slow-dancing and became filled with rage!").
Anyway, I was ordered to meet one morning with the minister for " counseling " about the situation. I show up at his house, and the first thing out of his mouth is " Have you been having...gasp!...SEX with her !!!?" I told him that we had been together for 6 months, and were deciding on the wedding date.
“WEDDING !!! " this bulwark of stern righteousness shouted, "She doesn't even attend church! Has she said she'll attend and be baptized before the wedding?". I told him that she was not interested in any way in attending or even being involved in any way but that she respected my beliefs and my religion would be no problem for her." But that's being unequally yoked ( as if we're a couple of goddamn oxen! ) with an unbeliever! Satan will use her if she becomes your wife! Use her to sap your loyalty to the church....she will pollute your CONVERSION! We can't allow it! You must break off the wedding and leave her at once if she is not going to be a Worldwide Church of God member!". And so, to my everlasting shame, I left without an explanation this wonderful person preparing to spend the rest of her life with me. I have a wonderful wife and daughter now, but in the words of Alexander in the film " The Time Machine."
