Women In The Bible by Alex
God doesn't hate women, the Bible does. But you can expect that, since it was written entirely by biased, macho men who proclaimed they were given the authority and were inspired by God. What can be more evident of this than the constant contradictions, bickering, arguing and debating in regards to it? "Matter of interpretation", "that's your opinion," "where's that in the Bible?", "we know the truth", "Sunday is a pagan day," "Saturday is the real sabbath", etc, etc. Since God is not supposed to be the author of confusion, does it make sense he would inspire men to write such a book filled with hate, killings, torture, rape, incest, religious wars, cannibalism, polygamy, wholesale slaughter, etc in His name?
It is ironic when one places his or her hand on the Bible and swears to solemnly tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth so help me God in a court of law that is sworn to uphold the law. You are legally required to swear by a book that is full of every broken law known to man and woman. It is an affront to the Almighty.
A woman should ask her minister, did God ever "inspire" a member of her sex with assistance in writing the Bible? Why are women put down so much in the Bible? Why are they scorned, rebuked, ridiculed, servile, and told to be quiet in church?
While we were in the Worldwide Church of God we were told that the Catholic Church was the "great whore" and the Protestant Churches were the "harlot daughters". If true, there is something the Bible conveniently overlooked; Since prostitutes are in business for one purpose only, that makes all men whoremongers, according to that belief. Something also to ask your minister about. You know what he will say? "Matter of interpretation". Un-hunh. Un-hunh. (Nod, nod).
Women have been put down since the biblical days of Adam and Eve. The blame fell on her from the beginning. Ever since she bit into that apple, women have suffered in every imaginable way down through the ages. Since religion was created by man, and since the Bible was written by man, women were relegated to the lowest level of a vassal. Man couldn't stand to have the first human being on earth be a woman. So he contrived a stupid plot to yank out one of his ribs and create a woman. Since man AND woman are supposed to be made in God's image, and one is equal to the other, God logically would have created them at the same time. But we are led to believe that Eve was created as an afterthought. "Oh, we better give the old boy a 'helpmeet' so he won't be lonely".
If God had a plan for this world, He didn't dwell on afterthoughts. If He planned to populate this earth with humans, he couldn't do it with just one man with so many ribs and no womb. Reasoning should tell you that Eve was no afterthought.
But according to the Bible, women have suffered every humiliation imaginable, since Eve "sinned". One of the vilest, most repulsive and nauseating acts ever attributed to womankind is found in 2nd Kings. chap. 6:28,29--"And the king sayeth unto her, 'what aileth thee?' And she answered, 'This woman sayeth unto me, 'Give thy son that we may eat him today, and we will eat my son tomorrow'. --verse 29--'So we boiled my son and did eat him: and I said unto her on the next day, 'give thy son, that we may eat him: and she had hid her son'.-The question comes to mind, since there was a great famine in Samaria, where the hell were the husbands? Eating turkey somewhere? Or did they participate and weren't mentioned. Which is more logical.
One of the ten doosies and don'tsies is "Thou shalt not commit adultery". That law was shattered to smithereens in the Old Testament. In numerous scriptures "concubines" are mentioned. Webster defines concubine as, "a woman who is not legally a wife but lives with a man and sometimes has a recognized position in his household. Also mistress". Webster's definition of a mistress is: "A woman other than his wife with whom a married man has sexual relations". Okay. Now let's see who some of these adulterers were in the Old Testament: Gen. 25;6--"But unto the sons of the concubines, which Abraham had, Abraham gave gifts, and sent them away from Isaac his son, while he yet lived----"
2 Sam. 5:13--"And David took him more wives and concubines out of Jerusalem----" (also 19:5 -- 20:3--15;16--16;21.22)
Dan. 5:2--"Belshazzar, whilst he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, drank in them". (Also Dan. 3;23--1 kings 11;3--1 Chron. 3;9--2;11--and in 1 kings 11;3 speaking of Solomon--"And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines; and his wives turned away his heart".) Solomon must have been quite a man. Just chock full of testosterone.
The Bible reveals what indignity women have been subjected to. Nothing more than to satisfy the pleasures of men. In any uprisings or wars, women and babies were the first casualties. "Take all the first born, etc.--" "kill all the women and children, etc." Women are destined to suffer labor pains, PMS, stress, menstrual periods, child rearing, nursing, cooking, housekeeping, food preparation, etc.
So what about the man? Most had the tip of their foreskins cut off and didn't even know it happened. Although some wives wished the doctors would have gone a little further. Numerous marriages suffer from spousal abuse, which also is the cause of many divorces. It is, in most cases, the husband who is at fault. Who also flees from child support. Single parentage has become the norm in the 90's.
On page 383 of "The Book Your Church Doesn't Want You to Read" is an article titled "Woman" by Robert Green Ingersoll. Although the entire article merits reading, I will quote a few excerpts:
"In olden times when religions were manufactured--when priestcraft and lunacy governed the world--the women were not consulted. they were regarded as serfs and menials--looked upon as a species of property to be bought and sold like other domestic animals.Women have through many generations acquired the habit of submission, of acquiescence. They have practiced what may be called the slave virtues--obedience, humility--so that some time will be required for them to become accustomed to the new order of things, to the exercise of greater freedom. So, I say, equal rights, equal education, equal advantages.
In my judgment, the woman is equal to the man. She has all the rights that I have and one more, and that is the right to be protected. If there is any man I detest, it is the man who thinks he is the head of the family--the man who thinks he is "boss".
Women are not willing to suffer here, with the hope of being happy beyond the clouds. They want their happiness now. They are beginning to think for themselves.
The gentlemen of today show more affection for their dogs than most of the kings of England exhibited towards their wives.
As long as woman regards the Bible as the charter of her rights, she will be the slave of man. The Bible was not written by a woman. Within its lids there is nothing but humiliation and shame. She is regarded as the property of man.
Man having been the superior of woman always accounts for the fact that most of the high gods have been males. Had woman been physically superior, the powers supposed to be the rulers of Nature, would have been women. Instead of being represented in the apparel of man, they would have been luxuriated in trains, low necked dresses, laces and black hair.
If we wish to find what the Bible thinks of a woman, all that is necessary to do is read it. We will find every where she is spoken of simply as property-as belonging absolutely to the man. We will find that whenever a man got tired of his wife, all he had to do was to give her a writing of divorcement, and then the mother of his children became a houseless and homeless wanderer. We will find that men were allowed to have as many wives as he could get, either by courtship, purchase, or conquest.
Nearly every religion has accounted for all the devilment of this world by the crime of a woman. What a gallant thing that is. And if it be true, I had rather live with the woman I love in a world of trouble, than live in heaven with nobody but men". Unquote.
So, ladies, the ball is in your court. You are making great strides in today's world where civil and human rights mean much. I give you credit for standing up for those rights and for demanding your rightful place in today's society. But, pray tell, why are you so timid, shy and close-mouthed when it comes to religion and the Bible? Is it because you were unaware of the situation and now see it in a proper light? They say hell hath no fury as a woman scorned. Add to that, deceived, abused, humiliated, ridiculed, taken advantage of, treated like dog doo, etc, and you are quite justified to rise up, seething in righteous anger and fury. To cast off the chains that bind you religiously, glare at your pompous, all knowing ministry and scream indignantly;
"WE'RE MAD AS HELL AND WE AREN'T GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE!"
