"As you have most likely figured out by now, the most evil fruit borne from the Armstrong churches of God can be found in the ministry."
Are you at a crossroad in your life?
One road leads into the light of a bright, shining
future in which the combative Armstrong churches of God
are thoroughly absent.
The other road leads into the darkness of confusion, anger and despair. The question, therefore I ask is, who's driving the bus?
If you were a child going to SEP you faced abuse, sexual molestation, and an entire summer with sermons that filled you full of fear and anxiety. You may have been one of those kids that had mentally ill parent that abused you, beating, starving, and treating you like human life is expendable. No doubt that you hate the cult your parents bought you into, and perhaps you hate your parent too. There is no blame on you to feel guilty about.
Regardless, one fact that has been established beyond a doubt is that Armstrong churches of God will always choose to ignore the evidence that their founder was a narcissistic sociopath who led a life full of sexual and financial misgivings. But there are further-reaching implications against the armstrongites. We need to look beyond the most immediate and visible problems with Armstrongism. We need to look at what is behind these problems and understand what drives these type of people.
Church culture engenders patterns of thought that cause despair, depression and anxiety. It is a culture that is unyielding, devoid of love, lacking in humility, lacking in concern for their fellow man. The churches of God's inveracities appeal to people who are fearful about the world's political and economic situation and long for simple solutions to complex problems. Their credentialism however is a prison. It is also, paradoxically, a haven. At the first glance at discovering the 'church' it may have seemed to be empowering. And because of one's absence of alternative havens, credentialism will for the membership continued to be a source of comfort, something to free them from having to take responsibility for their own lives. The real damage that this causes actually has nothing to do with the belief system itself, but with psychology, human nature, and the skillful psychological manipulation of that nature by the leadership of the various churches of God and their pseudo moralistic lieutenants.
I know there are a lot of wcg horror stories out there. If you would like to share them anonymously or under your name, please send them to me at: CLICK HERE FOR EMAIL ADDRESS.
"Armstrong was a man utterly without honor, without principles, without a shred of genuine decency or patriotism. He was the ultimate exterminator of religious life for thousands, and the grand compelling creator of a vast army of atheists."
