Ah, the good old days before the world went to hell in a handcart. Things are just so bad these days, and they're only going to get worse. Oh, to wind things back to simpler Fred MacMurray My Three Sons times.
That's a popular narrative today. These are unsettling times.
But were they any less unsettling twenty, forty, sixty years ago? Really?
Pam Dewey has been busy producing a short (20 minute) "docucommentary", The Best of Times, part of her ongoing MythAmerica project. Here's the link where Pam introduces her work (which she also narrates) and where you can access it. Just hit play and don't forget the set it for full screen.

Looking forward to a whole slew of videos from Pam Dewey! Probably the most influential woman ever in the COG scene.
Hey Gavin... is there any way you can "highlight" links in your posts?? Unless a reader hovers his mouse over the link in your paragraph, which then turns it blue and underlined, it's impossible to tell that it IS a link.
Below is how I do it. Does this show up as highlighted when others read it? It does for me.
Meet MythAmerica video description
It was better in 1950s inasmuch as the USA was the world's largest creditor nation, but the poverty rate was higher than today in the 1950s.
Today the population has doubled from that of 1957 and yet the poverty rate is lower! A miracle? No, borrowing, turning the US into the world's largest debtor nation!
So 1950s poverty was honest poverty, living within a nation's means.
Minimalist is correct on the above response.
